About Vilac Vilac toys are unique, never go out of fashion and have lasting appeal for all generations. Wood is a magical material: an alder branch can be made into a skipping rope; a piece of beech wood can be turned into a dog, a cat or a rabbit. Carved wood acquires life, as Roland Barthes summed up so well: "It’s a familiar yet poetic material that establishes in children a sense of continuity between a tree, a table or a floor. Wood is not damaging or unsettling. It doesn’t smash, it wears away. It is durable and remains so as a child grows." Toy-making secrets: the wood is turned, smoothed, sanded and lacquered by skilled craftsmen at Moirans-en-montagne. The toy designers are veritable artists who give personality and character to the toys. Enter to win now by signing up to our email newsletter! |
November prize draw
04.11.2008|
Congratulations go to Sofie Beck from London who wins October’s prize of a Toby the Pull Along Dog by Vilac. Sign up to our email newsletters here to be in with a chance of winning! Esthex is the brainchild of Esther Schuivens who, always keeping her own childhood drawings in mind, has been designing children’s toys, dolls and accessories with great pleasure since 2003. After graduating form the school of Arts in Maastricht in 2000, the Netherlands, Esther had several exhibitions in textile galleries. Esthex was born one Sunday afternoon while Esther got very inspired looking through her own childhood drawings that she found in the attic of her parents house. Humour, simplicity and strange proportions is what she found in her drawings and what you will find in Esther’s designs. A triangle becomes a dress, two long stripes are the legs and then all left to draw is a head made from a circle, two dots are the eyes and there she is, the imaginary princess! |

Especially for those who are anti plastic, Toby is very cute and cool! From French manufacturer Vilac he is a little wooden pull along dog with rubber ringed chunky red wheels and a cute bell at his neck. He has been sprayed with a hard lacquer which gives him a lovely glossy finish and comes in a cardboard kennel gift box. As he is a design classic, he wont need to be confined to a toy box and can sit proud on any shelf long after he has been played with. Toby is worth £29.90 Just sign up for our mailing list here to be in with a chance of winning! |
