There I was in the stock room looking at all our beautiful stuff when I saw these Plastisock baby blankets and realised that I hadn’t put them on to Yellow Lolly as yet - not quite a catastrophe but it means our lovely customers and visitors haven’t been able to see them, which is a shame as they are made from beautifully soft, double layered jersey cotton with a contrasting binding and a comfortable size for a buggy or pram at 80 x70cm.

Being from Plastisock they are of course fabulous looking, bright, funky, colourful, playful and fun and carry the Oeko-tex label which shows that the fabric is free from harmful dyes and chemicals. Well, they are on Yellow Lolly for the taking now and with free world wide delivery (our current promotion) they make a nice little purchase!

We are really pleased to have just received our "High Summer" collection from Mini A Ture. For the girls we have items in a stunningly pretty floral design which is both elegant and nostalgic and a colour that will suit any skin palour. The dress has been loving smocked to the front and the pantaloons are a gorgeous shape that will look great on both baby and toddler. Top with the beautifully detailed Ludmilla cream cardigan and either the Olisa or Lauri summer hat.

For the boys we have Edgar, a fabulous light weight cotton shirt in a grey/blue with blue pin stripe. Can be worn both causally and smart. Try with Mini A Ture Zoris long lightweight denim shorts or Klaus cotton shorts in fossil or navy. It has been a long wait but we are pleased to announce that Swedish Design brand Plastisock has finally arrived at Yellow Lolly. Their green efforts saw production move from China to Portugal here in Europe and gave Plastisock a shaky start to the season, but the creases have been ironed out and we now have the first part of our delivery with more to follow.

Launched in 2005, Plastisock is the brain child of Swedish mothers Malin Jarbo and Emily Willman. Bored of the conformity pink for girls and blue for boys, and realising that kids will be kids and look great in colours that are fitting for both sexes, Plastisock was born and the designing began! The fabulous colours and even more daring designs are grand pickings for any child who is able to decide what he or shes likes to wear; and for parents who still have control over the wardrobe, the assurance that the garments come with the "Confidence in Textiles" Oeko -tex standard 100 label.

This spring and summer season 09 brings us Cherry Berry, Yellow and Blue Circus and Sweet and Sour Lime, which are tantalising, thought provoking and generally super cool prints and colours. Long and short sleeved bodies, rompers, short sleeved T shirts leggings and dresses cover the ages. Babies and kids will look fabulous, feel great and turn heads where ever they go.

Danish cool brand Ej Sikke Lej have become world renowned for their childrenswear in distinctive, bold prints. Founded just four years ago when the owners came across some books with some funny animal prints, today they are especially known for their owl print gear that appears in every collection, but they also have nut, bird, stripes, tortoises and all sorts. Their clothing is high quality, every day wear that doesn’t blend in.

Our collection at Yellow Lolly is made up of bodysuits, playsuits, t-shirts, all-in-ones, dresses, bottoms, and accessories in a host of prints, colours, and stripes to wow.

Their brilliant prints are demonstrated especially on their body suits and all-ones which are either an all over print in bold, super contrasting colours, or plain yet wonderfully bold with the outline of an animal. The all-in-ones start from £13 and the green and blue tortoise skinny rib all-in-one on the left is £19. I use them as sleepwear but especially when they are dinky, these are just as fabulous as daywear. The bodysuits start from £11 and the hot pink squirrel one featured is £13

Like our other brands Moonkids and Kik Kid, playsuits are a core part of the Ej Sikke Lej look. We have them in denim, corduroy, knit, and velour, which shows how versatile this look is.

I actually don’t have a favourite as I love all of these playsuits but I forced myself to only feature two! The purple velour ones £18 are like heaven! They’re super soft and have ribbed binding for the ankles and the trim around the neck and sleeves.

Their denim dungarees are magic (£23.50) with a superb fit. I have a different denim pair and they last quite a while, have a fantastic fit, and are really well made as they are fully lined. All of their playsuits look great with their bodysuits, and long and short sleeved t-shirts which start from £11.

This cotton poplin floral dress (£30) is Ej Sikke Lej down to a tee. The contrast of red and purple is beautiful and oddly subtle, and it has great detail from the pleats to the little red buttons, and the piping across the chest which give it a really great fit and flare. The poplin is really soft yet really hardwearing so don’t be nervous about washing it. Pair this with their stripey or plain tights which are £7-£7.50.

We’ve had these fab little velour padded all-in-one suits in now for just over a week. They are scrumptious and unusual, turning your little one into a little bundle of cocooned warmth in great style. They’re so warm, Claire thinks they’re like mini duvets! Great for chilly days in the house when the heating is off, they have a zip from neck to foot and two cute pockets plus contrasting ribbing detail on the cuffs, ankles, and collar. They’re £23 each and also come in green.

If you were born in the seventies, the retro cool style of Moonkids will be very familiar to you as their clothing looks just like stuff that you wore as a child. These Swedish designers have taken the disctinctive style of the era and worked with fitted shapes and stretchy fabrics and a palette of deep colours.

Our range here at Yellow Lolly features high neck tops and bodysuits, rugged dungaree crawlers and playsuits, and A-line dresses in a host of deep colours using terry and cotton to great aplomb.

Their blue terry crawler playsuit (£26) is a must-have suited to either sex. They have a cute pocket on the front with sleek pleats from the waist to the ankle that remind me of Sta Pressed trousers, and cute silver fasteners for contrast, plus funktastic flared ankles.

Their striped skinny rib playsuit (£18) which also comes in brown and red are also fantastic. All the playsuits are slim fit, but long, so your child will get a good, flared wear out of these.

Pair their playsuits with their plain, long sleeved, skinny rib tops which come in red, brown, or blue for £12 each.

Their skinny rib trousers which also come in red and brown for a cool £14.50 are a great wardrobe staple looking super cool. Team again with their skinny rib tops and these will look great with funky trainers or chunky boots. You definitely can’t miss your child in a pair of these!

We have these cool A-line dresses (£19.50) that will also work really well with the long sleeved tops or with their striped bodysuits for busy retro contrast or for matched up look. Better still, team them with the skinny rib trousers for a cool, layered look. We love the bold contrast of the colours on these dresses which also come in green and blue, with their sweet peep hole necks.

We thought we’d profile each of  the Scandinavian brands that we’re such huge fans of. First up is Dutch brand Kik Kid.

When we were setting up Yellow Lolly and sourcing brands to stock, this was the first brand we chose after spotting it at a kids fashion fair in Antwerp in early 2007. We instantly fell in love with the line, which in turn helped shape the direction of the brands that we wanted to stock.

All of the Kik Kid range follows the form and shape of a childs body and every design is simple and considered, and yet oh so stylish, plus each piece has their little logo label displayed discreetly but prominently with the star regularly seen hanging of the zips. Kik Kid is perfect for high quality, practical, bold basics with an edge and is ideal if you don’t want to go down the eclectic prints route.

The fit and comfort of our Kik Kid collection is excellent and their pieces can be worn equally well as separates or as full outfits. The autumn winter colour palette is dark grey, a vibrant pink which reminds me of bubblegum, petrol blue, and a deep green with splashes of dark red.

We love their selection of bold colours and they are fantastic at contrasting with their trimming and patches such as on their cotton bodysuits( £15), which are so gorgeous, you almost don’t want to cover up the contrasting bum and seat. The petrol blue shoulders on the dark grey bodysuit (pictured left) and red stitched detail around at the top of the arms ensure that these are no ordinary bodysuits and they should definitely be worn as outwerwear.

They also have these fabulously retro velour jumpsuits (£26) in petrol blue and the vibrant pink (pictured right) and they both have patches on the elbows that make them totally edgy and cool. Each jumpsuit has contrasting piping in the colour of the patches and we know these are going to be a big hit as we sold so many of them last winter and people also went nuts for the short sleeved versions during the summer!

One of our favourite items from their range which they do in different colours each season is their leggings. My little girl looks fantastic in them and they are unrivalled in their shape and fit which is created by the stitching around the waist and down the legs. They hold their shape no matter how many washes and look great with hoodies and tops, as well as tunics and dresses, and they look very cool with a funky pair of trainers, shoes, or boots. We stock them in both the vibrant pink and petrol blue for £15 each in sizes from birth through to three years.

If you prefer a loose fit, we also have wide legged velour pants that can also form a wardrobe staple and look great teamed with even a smart shirt. They have chunky ribbed waistband and leg cuffs and come in the dark grey pictured or in the vibrant pink for £18 each.

Another staple is their very stylish tights which use the colour palette but have also had cool prints and patterns on them to give them an edge. Pair them with our Kik Kid dresses which we have in velour and cotton, like the green tricot a-shape dress pictured to totally add funk to their outfit. The colours are really deep on these tights so they really stand out and make bold fashion statements for your tot. £10 each. They have them in varying stripe patterns and they have managed to make love hearts look fashionable with their deep red tights pictured.

If you’ve been shopping around for baby and children’s clothing, you’ll often see references to the ‘Oeko Tex Standard‘ and it’s likely that you’ll assume it means something of importance, but you may not know why.

The idea behind this standard is that globally, there is uniform testing and certification of textiles at all stages of production. This ensures that not only are manufacturers able to buy in their raw materials with confidence, but for you as the consumer, when you see that the clothing you are considering purchased has been certified with this standard, you can rest assured that the fabric has been tested for over 100 harmful chemicals. You can not only have confidence in the quality of the fabric but also that your child’s skin is not coming into contact with them.

There are varying ways that this standard may appear when you are checking out clothing so for instance, when browsing our Lille Barn collection, you see that all of the dyes used are free from heavy chemicals that meet Oeko Tex Standards and with the Katvig collection, the entire item has been tested to the strictest levels of the standard. As it is, both brands use eco friendly fabrics so for instance with Lille Barn who use fabrics like merino wool which is naturally full of brilliant eco friendly properties and produced in a ethical manner, their concerns are to ensure that they don’t ‘pollute’ their merino. An example of their range is our fuschia striped merino playsuit which is £30.

Katvig uses a mix of fabrics to ensure stretch and fit such as the very eco friendly bamboo plus cotton and elastane and so everything, right down to the dye and the thread used is put through rigourous tests to ensure high quality. An example of their collection is the green flying high print hoody made from bamboo which is £17.

All in all, the Oeko Tex Standard is about an extra vote of confidence.

Here at Yellow Lolly, we’ve pulled together a stylish and eclectic mix of the must have Scandinavian brands, Katvig, Ej Sikke Lej, Mini A Ture, Kik Kid, Moonkids, and Lille Barn for autumn winter. There is a fantastic mix of brights, prints, and practical with a focus on wearability, durability, and style to take your child through the two seasons. Here is a quick overview:

All of them are practical yet stunning to look at, in retro velour and corduroy, and floaty poplin cotton. There’s also plenty of cotton basics that you won’t want to hide away.

Mini A Ture’s collection is functional, nostalgic, and a bit more subtle than some of our other brands, but nonetheless effortlessly stylish. From dusty rose basics, to denim and tweed dungarees, to bang on trend check shirts and blouses, plus their smocks and knits in whimsical knits and prints, you’ll be wanting some of this gear in adult sizes! We love the fleece lined winter jackets which are selling fast!

Kik Kid’s clothing follows the shape and form of your child and what emerges is a collection of functional, stylish clothing in delightful brights. If you want bold colour contrasts without prints or uber stylish statement pieces that you can mix and match, their pieces are fantastic. Our collection has great basics in this seasons petrol blue, vibrant pink, dark red, dark grey, and deep green and we’re especially excited that their edgy boiler suits with their elbow patches have made a return.

Our Lille Barn collection is a wonderful mix of statement pieces in eco friendly merino wool which amongst its many features will keep your child warm in winter and cool in summer, and is brilliant on delicate skin. We have playsuits, dresses, jumpers, scarves, hats, and mittens in their beautiful knits which are a high quality buy and brilliant value.
